Plain
Desiccators are physically the same as
Vaccum Desiccator. Only difference is
the absence of stop cock. Grease should
be applied on the flanges to make it air
tight. Both Vaccume & Plain
Desiccators are provided with a thick
perforated Polypropylene disc with a big
hole in the centre for easy lifting. The
tiny hles in the disc provide air
troughs & support to the diswhes.
However procelain discs are advisable in
case of incandescent crucibles.

Kipp's Apparatus made of Polyethylene
has three main portions. The top portion
is fitted with a thistle funnel and a
bulb structure through which dilute
funnel and a bulb structure through
which dilute acid can be poured which
reacts with a metal sulphate in the base
of the Apparatus. Hydrogen Sulphide gas
then evolved collects in the middle dome
from where it can be released through a
leakproof stopcock fitted with a self
lubricating Poly Tetra Flouro Ethylene (PTFE)
plug. The base is provided with a
residual outlet fitted with a cap for
easy cleaning.
